A NASCAR race’s full length can be between 1 and a half to 3 hours. That’s a long time to be stuck in a car.

So, what happens when nature calls?

Do NASCAR drivers wear diapers during these long races?

Let’s find out.

Do NASCAR Drivers Wear Diapers?

The short answer is no, NASCAR drivers do not wear diapers or catheters during races–regardless of how long those NASCAR events are.

Does a NASCAR Driver Pee During a Race?

Going to the bathroom inside a NASCAR car is not unheard of. Drivers who have openly spoken about this, such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., say this rarely ever happens.

However, on the off chance that they do have to go mid-race, they do it only when it’s a distraction. They usually hold it in if it doesn’t take their focus away from the race.

How Do They Manage?

If you’re wondering how NASCAR drivers do not pee during races, the answer is they prepare in advance.

Just like they follow a strict regimen throughout the year that helps them maintain an optimal weight, and similarly, they also follow certain rules to keep hydration levels to ensure they don’t dehydrate mid-race.

That’s why they know exactly when to start and stop drinking fluids before every race.

Typically, drivers start races with empty bladders. They usually wait until the very last minute to go to the bathroom before they jump into their cars. This helps them last well through the race without the need to go to the bathroom.

High Temperature Inside The Car

One of the reasons why drivers don’t need to pee during races (as much as you think they would) is that they sweat… a lot.

The internal car temperature is often 30-40 degrees hotter than the air temperature on the track. This causes drivers to sweat profusely and lose a considerable amount of fluids through perspiration–up to 5 pounds per race– which is the main reason why they need to stay hydrated during races.

Do NASCAR Drivers Poop In Their Suits?

NASCAR drivers do not relieve themselves in their suits. No driver has even admitted to pooping in their suit during a race, and that’s because they keep a strict tab on what they eat and when –before they go into their cars.

They typically eat a light meal well before a race and avoid hot, spicy, flavorful, and complex foods to prevent unexpected bowel movements during the race.

Bottom Line

Do NASCAR drivers wear diapers? They don’t. In fact, they don’t even feel the urge to go to the bathroom in most races throughout the year.

But, in cases when they can’t hold it in, they just do it inside their car– they’re already soaking wet from the high temperatures, so why not?
