Spain end Italy’s 37 games unbeaten run

The 37-game unbeaten run came to an end as Spain won against Italy in an exciting match at the San Siro to reach the Nations League final.

Spain got their revenge against the 2021 EURO winners as they were eliminated in a penalty shootout by the eventual winners on Wembley.

Although the match was played in Milano on San Siro, the home side did not have the perfect start as they wished for, as 21-year-old Manchester City forward Ferran Torres opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a great header. Right before the final whistle of the first half, the scorer in the EURO’s final, Leonardo Bonucci, received a second yellow card and was sent off. A few minutes later, Ferran Torres added to his tally, and the score at halftime was 0-2 to Spain.

In the second half, Italy tried to push forward and was rewarded for their persistence in the 83rd minute by a Lorenzo Pellegrini goal. However, Spain managed to hold on to their lead in the next ten minutes, which meant that Italy’s unbelievable unbeaten run had finally ended.

After tonight’s game, Spain will know the Nations League final opponent, where Belgium faces current World Cup holders France.
