Sky Brown becomes Britain’s youngest Olympic medalist

Earlier today, 13-year-old Sky Brown won a bronze medal in the women’s skateboard event, making her Great Britain’s youngest ever medalist in the Olympics.

With a score of 57.40, the teenage skateboarder qualified in second place for the final at the Ariake Urban Park.

She finished right behind Sakura Yosozmu, 19, and Kokona Hiraki, 12. The teenager fell in her first two runs of the final, but she landed her last attempt with a score of 56.47.

The first placed Yosozumi had a score of 60.09, while second-placed Hiraki’s 59.04 was enough for her to claim the silver medal.

Another athlete from Great Britain, 24-year-old Ben Whittaker, lost to Cuba’s Arlen Lopez, which landed him in second place.  In an interview for the BBC, he said that he was very disappointed with himself. According to him, he doesn’t feel like he won a silver medal, but actually, he lost a gold one.
