Patrick Bamford receives first England call-up

The 27-year-old has received his first national call-up for the Three Lions, and Trent Alexander-Arnold is also recalled for the national squad after withdrawing from England’s 33-man preliminary squad for Euro 2020. This is a well-deserved call up for the Leeds striker as he was one of the best players in the Premier League last year and almost guided his team Leeds to the Europe Conference League.

Arsenal new players Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale, have not been included in Southgate’s 25-man selection, with Ben Chilwell also being left out. Another surprise is that one of the best young players in the Premier League right now, Mason Greenwood, is also not making the final cut for the 25-man squad, despite his fantastic start with Manchester United.

There was no place for another young player from Manchester, Phil Foden, who is still recovering from his foot injury.

This is the full England team:

Goalkeepers: Sam Johnstone, Nick Pope, Jordan Pickford

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Coady, Reece James, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, Luke Shaw, Kieran Trippier, John Stones, Kyle Walker

Midfielders: Jude Bellingham, Jordan Henderson, Jesse Lingard, Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips, Declan Rice

Forwards: Patrick Bamford, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling.

In the upcoming weeks, the Three Lions will face Hungary on September 2, Andorra at home on the 5th, and three days later, they travel to Warsaw to face Poland.
