The Argentine maestro and Pars St-Germain forward won the Ballon d’Or for a record seventh time in his career and now has two more than his fierce rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 34-year old had an amazing season last year, scoring 40 goals and helping his country win the Copa America and leading Barcelona to a Copa Del Rey title in Spain.

In second and third came Bayern Munich and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho, while French and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema finished fourth.

Although in 2020 there was no award due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year 180 journalists from around the world voted that ex-Barcelona number 10 should get the Ballon d’Or award.

After receiving his award, Messi said that its been a special year for him after winning his first international trophy with Argentina and thanked Argentina, Barcelona and PSG teammates for helping him along the way.

He also had some nice words for the runner-up for this award, saying that it has been a pleasure playing against him and he deserved to win the Ballon d’Or last year.
