Champions League Day 1: Barcelona host Bayern

The most popular competition in European football, the Champions League, kicks off today at 18:45 in Switzerland and Spain. The opening matches of this year’s Champions League will be between Sevilla and Salzburg and Young Boys and Manchester United. After last year’s Champions League fiasco, where the Red Devils did not get past the groups, Solskjaer, with Cristiano Ronaldo up front, will try to start this campaign with a win.

Last year’s champions will begin their title defence against Zenit at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea are expected to continue their impressive form this season.

However, the most exciting match should be in Catalonia, where the hosts Barcelona will play against German champions Bayern Munchen.  The last time these two teams met, Bayern Munchen trashed Barcelona with the famous 8-2 win and later became champions. This is highlighted as the match of the day as these two teams are ranked right behind Real Madrid in 2nd and 3rd place for most matches played in the Champions League.

After their poor start in Seria A, the Italian side Juventus will try to grab the points in Sweden against Malmo, while last year Ligue 1 champions Lille will host Wolfsburg.

The last two matches tonight are between Europe League winners Villareal and Atalanta and Dynamo Kyiv and Benfica.

The long wait for European football will not only be welcomed by football fans but punters will also be excited since football is the most popular sport to bet on in the UK.
